Launch of new new junior cricket league

Well done to the Mambas who won the game by 1 run.

The Clinton Moodley Cricket Academy (CMCA) in conjunction with the Scottburgh Country Club kicked off a junior hardball cricket T20 league last Saturday.

Four teams will participate in this league: CMCA Green Mambas, CMCA Red Devils, CMCA Rockets and Malangeni Cricket Club.
The inaugural match was a nail-biter last weekend. The Mambas overcame a strong Red Devils defeating them by one run. Mambas captain Rorke Harris won the toss and elected to bat. The Mambas made a competitive 122 runs in their 20 overs. Batting contributions came from Shivaar Sivpersad 16 runs, Rorke Harris 13 runs, Arshaan Ishwarlal 10 runs with the rest of the batters chipping in.

The Red Devils bowling figures were respectable. Deshan Pillay bowling his 5 overs for 13 runs and claiming 2 wickets, Ryan Mansour’s 4 overs went for 20 runs and he claimed 1 wicket, Zayden Nagdee bowled his 5 overs and conceded 31 runs while claiming 2 wickets, Stefanie Garber bowled 2 overs for 20 runs and claimed 1 wicket and lastly Drogin Hall bowled 1 over and conceded no runs.

Red Devils captain Deshan Pillay assumed that this run chase would be a doddle. Opening bowler for the Mambas, Anton Bezuidenhout destroyed the Red Devils top order claiming the first 4 wickets for 18 runs in his 5 over spell. His opening partner Shivaar Sivpersad claimed the next 4 scalps for 25 runs in his 5 overs. Captain Rorke bowled a decent spell only conceding 14 runs in his 3 overs. Caleb Turner and Shivesh Moodley bowled decently with Shivesh taking 1 wicket in his 3 overs for 9 runs.

Star batsman for the Red Devils, Chayton du Plessis smashed the ball regularly to the boundary. His boundary hitting included 6 fours and 2 sixes. He finished not out on 51 (35 balls).

Chayton and Deshan took the game to the last ball, but Mambas captain Rorke held his nerve and bowled a stellar last ball perfectly outside the off stump straight to wicki Cade Canham. The game was won by 1 run by the Mambas.

The Red Devils (back, from left) Zayden Nagdee, Stefanie Gerber, Jana Gerber and Janel Garber and Drogin Hall, with Valerie du Plooy, Chayton du Plessis and Deshan Pillay in front.
