Scottburgh golfers news and results.

It was bread and butter time at Scottburgh Golf Club last Wednesday, as we played a betterball Stableford.
It was also ‘deja vu’ as the previous Saturday’s winners steamrolled their way to a comfortable win.
Wayne Simpson and Denis Brown accumulated 43 points to easily win and in second place were Tony Power and Brian Richards, a distant 5 shots back on 38.

Tony Power then scooped the hidden holes with visitor Les Orchard making the only 2 club.
Sometimes winners become least point winners of the Stone after Mick Marriot and Geoff Thommasen picked it up, a better throw of the balls next week for partners is required for that fourball.

Friday’s five pin was almost a wipeout as Hilton McAuliffe recorded 14 points almost 3 a hole to steal the R200 on offer. Alex Morris thought she’d done enough but fell 4 points short with 10 – never mind Alex you get to keep your R100 sponsorship prize.
It was another dark and dingy day, last Saturday for the Local Choice/Dis Chem Pharmacy sponsored Monthly medal. The wind also picked up and so did eight players who submitted N/Rs the most. Coming to the ‘fore’ in the A division was Pete Gilliver with the best gross of 80 followed by Nivash Mahabeer with the best nett of 77.

In the B division Simon Cubitt has been taking telephonic lessons from Jack and Luke as he shot 78 to take the gross with Les Orchard taking the nett with 74.

No surprises in the C division as Tony Power scored 38 points to win by 3 from T Govender on 35.
Winning the medal for February was a no brainer as Simon Cubitt’s nett 68 outdid all. John Mills, Pete Morris, Deane Jooste, Hilton McAuliffe and Geoff Thommasen all rolled in birdies on the par 3s, but the hidden holes remained dormant.

Your 100 Club tickets are waiting to be recharged. We have a few spares due to members no longer with us. To take their place, contact the office. Tickets are R100 each and there are three prizes every month of R250, R150 and R100, even if you win one third prize you haven’t lost but supported the club. The Sardine Run tournament is in June and 27 teams have entered. The limit is 40 teams, so get your entry in.
It is another betterball Stableford this Wednesday (1st) and Umthunzi Hotel will be sponsoring fantastic breaks as prizes this Saturday. The course will be closed from March 5 to 10 for early autumn treatment.

Flyer’s footnote: You need a fantastic memory to remember your great shots and a very poor memory to forget the bad ones.
