Gary goes deep at Southbroom

The greens are coming on nicely after spring treatment.

The ladies alliance at Southbroom Golf Club recently was won on 84 points by Jan Lehmann, Shelley Myers, Allyson Thomas and Sharon Turnbull-Jackson.

In the men’s section Gary Purtell recorded a superb gross 70 despite a few three-putts to take his team to victory on 89 points. (Not great for his 5.8 handicap index ahead of season).

The others were Don Osbourn, Alex Crawford and Bob O’Callaghan.

In second place on 87 points were Werner Duggan, Neill Crossey, Bo Bergqvist and Christer Solgevik.

Six points further adrift were Clive Miller, Malcolm Greenland, Nicky Smith and Rory O’Donnell.

Saturday’s competition was won on 46 points by Anton Leal and Ant Hughes, two ahead of Clive Miller and Bob Carmichael.

In third on 44 points were Derek James’s siblings, Erica Walker and Neil James.

Erica was celebrating her 60th, so there was a family get-together.

They were followed by DJ’s son-in-law Steve Lamont and brother-in-law Grant Walker on 41 points.

Fifth spot went to Howard Kelly and Bob Clark on 40 points.

Chicken Run: Malcolm Greenland 19 pts, Clive Miller 18 pts, Geoff Skelton 18 pts.
