Playable course at Umkomaas impresses Eagles

Golfers played on the Umkomaas golf course as well.

For close to two days the Village Eagles golfers looked up at the sky in the hope that the sun would make an appearance but to no avail. Even on the day of the monthly round of golf the sun kept playing hide and seek and the golfers kept losing. But that did not stop the hardy members of the Village Eagles from turning up at Umkomaas Golf Course, and a full field of 56 players donned their rain jackets and teed off.

Well the faith shown by the players was rewarded not long after tee off time and while Mr Sun failed to make an appearance he did at least stop crying so rain jackets were discarded and smiles were worn.

Winners (from left) Barrie Ainslie, Dave Craig, Dennis Kamstra and Robin Bruce.

It is a bittersweet moment for a golfer when the rain comes down. While there is nothing enjoyable about playing golf in the rain, it is that very rain that the golf courses need. That said, we need to compliment and thank the management and staff of Umkomaas for giving us a very playable golf course to enjoy. Umkomaas has a motto, ‘the friendliest club’ and we could not find fault with that claim.

As that famous bodybuilder and politician said – ‘we will be back’.

The winning four ball on the day was won by Robbie Bruce, Barrie Ainslie, Dennis Kamstra and Dave Craig on a respectable total of 90 Stableford points. This team also brought in the best male player, namely Barrie Ainslie who shot 39 points, just pipping Dennis Kamstra by one shot. Best lady on the day was Estelle Binnekade on 37 points.

Our next game, at Umdoni Golf Club, will be the last game of 2022 which is proof that time flies when you are having fun. Talking about fun. Our December game is always followed by our year end party which makes for a happy ending to the year.
