Southbroom Senior Frogs clinch Interclub victory

The tournament, which attracted 402 golfers this year (a nice boost for the local economy) returns to the upper South Coast next year.

Of the local clubs, Southbroom Golf Club had the best showing at the KwaZulu-Natal Interclub held at San Lameer, Southbroom and Port Shepstone courses last weekend.
The weather was quite something, with extremely strong wind a major factor, as well as rain on day one and late on Sunday.

Southbroom’s Senior Frog team of Malcolm Greenland, Clive Miller and Bob Carmichael beat Riverside in the final, 2-1. Malcolm won his game 4/3 and the other two halved, with Bob winning the last two holes to square the match and dart in ahead of the storm.

In the A division, Southbroom couldn’t quite defend their title, losing to Durban Country Club, 2-1. Gavin Sole won his match against Jason Broomhead with a birdie on the last but Jean-Marc Bouic and David Rush had already lost by then, to Ashwin Krishen and Jono Broomhead respectively.

The B division was won by Ethekweni, defeating Umhlali CC. Southbroom’s team of Cyprian Xolo, Grant Richards and Graham Sole reached the semi-final, but could get no further.
