Southern KZN cricket moves forward with packed schedule

Summer's here and that means cricket, cricket and more of the same.

With an interim board elected to run the affairs of the Southern KwaZulu-Natal Cricket union, cricket it is finally taking encouraging steps forward.
Seven school boys were selected for the Southern KZN men’s side that played in Ugu trials against Umzinto last Saturday. Southern KZN won the morning game by 43 runs and lost the second game by 24 runs.
Selected from Ugu to go through to final trials for the KZN Rural Team were Ashley Lombard and Cody Mortimer (club cricketers), Mikyle Bartle and Marthinus Fritz (Suid Natal High), Jyadesh Naidoo (Creston College).

With positive feelings all around cricket at present, two teams are proud to announce new sponsors. Suidies Vikings Cricket Club is now sponsored by EMA Executive Alterations and Maintenance, while Port Shepstone Country Club Titans welcome new sponsor Garrun Group Insurance Brokers.

Port Shepstone Country Club has two teams affiliated, one that plays in the domestic league and one in the Harry Gwala District League – this to improve relations and to foster growth between the two unions.
The PSCC Titans took on Bombay from Kokstad last past weekend. PSCC titans 218/4 beat Kokstad Bombay 217 all out by six wickets. PSCC Titans were Sanolin Pather 84*, Stuan Scott 67, Sanolin Pather 3 wkts, Juan Dixon 2 wkts and Raja Kazi 2 wkts).

In junior cricket, Qhwamani Sikutshwa from Margate Primary has been selected for the Under 13 KZN invitation side.

As far as the domestic league is concerned, it’s going smoothly enough. Gamalakhe Warriors Cricket Club made a return to cricket, there now being 13 local clubs in Southern KZN.

Suidies Vikings 204/4 (Carl Nolte 89, Erwee Mynhardt 29, Andile Ndabankulu 2 wkts) beat Gamalakhe 86/10 (Erwee Mynardt 2 wkts, Marthinus Fritz 3 wkts, Jaco Otto 3 wkts). Man of the Match – Carl Nolte.

Wolves Eleven 164/5 (Dino Manilall 53, Rashied Gopaul 64, Nathaniel Govender 2 wkts, Usman Patel 2 wkts) beat Aces 146/5 (Duran Munsami 50, Dino Manilall 3 wkts). Man of the Match – Dino Manilall.
