This month saw the Village Eagles playing at Selbourne Golf Club.
They hosted the day and as usual the course was in immaculate condition. This after the club being closed the week before for the spring seeding of the greens. Thank you to the club captain and the staff at the course, very well done.
The day started somewhat gloomy, but most of the participants were in a good mood to play golf again with the Village Eagles. There were a few debates on the rain around the course, but as usual the weather will do as it does. The later starters were confronted with a light drizzle at the start and the early starters were already well into their game. This presented a scenario for the later starters, should we play or call it a day. Except for one four ball all the players took to the course.
With all the water around a lot of balls lost with the total count at 157, John van Niekerk predicted the correct number and was rewarded with a bottle of wine.
The best male and female players of the day and winning the champions trophy and a bottle of wine each were Henry Hampson on 39 points and Dot Linaker on 29 points – very well done to both of you.
The players winning the Stone’s Trophy and having the longest day on a combined 71 points were Eddie Matthews, Murray Linaker, Cecil Smith and Dot Linaker. Even Dot could not rescue this team with her 29 points.
On a more successful note, with only three players in the team, the winners of the day on combined 92 points were Les Vince, Frank Shaw and Noel Jessup. Well played guys.
