‘Spring has sprung, the grass is riz, I wonder where da birdies is?’

Hayley Gilliver won the prize of a two night stay at a hotel.

There weren’t many birdies to be found on Wednesday as the breeze was a bit too strong.

However, new members Steven Myburgh and Alwyn Stander got themselves well acquainted to the course with a 37 point winning total in a betterball Stableford.

One point further back were previous locals Willy Creaney and Francios Rousseau visiting from Umkomaas on 36 counting out local yokels Mike Eley and Gary Jones.

Mike Hogan and Christo Steynvaart got to polish the Stone.

Saturday saw the Boks in fine form and we gathered to play a fast becoming favourite Umthunzi Hotel Individual Stableford, just ask the Flyer how good the prize is.

Hayley Gilliver will be taking Pete, I presume, down to Umtentwini for a relaxing two night stay as her 37 points were good enough for first place.

Steven Myburgh was counted out also on 37 and won himself an overnight stay and John Mills a second count out was rewarded with two bottles of Chardonnay for third place.

It’s a betterball Stableford on Wednesday followed by the Halfway Toyota combined Stableford challenge on Saturday and don’t forget the Friday five pin.

The 16th tee is being renovated and thanks go to the two Petes, Morris and Gilliver, for sponsoring the material and time taken to plant the grass.

On Sunday (September 25) the Scottburgh Athletic Club will be sponsoring a four ball Alliance in aid of club funds, time sheet is up and waiting.

Flyer’s footnote: Golf is an open exhibition of overweening ambition, courage deflated by idiocy, skill soured by a whiff of arrogance, these humiliations are the essence of the game.
