Scotties welcomes back Umko players

Scottburgh Golf Club news and results.

Boys and girls came out to play in a betterball Stableford at Scottburgh Golf Club last Wednesday.
We also had a return of the Umko players from last week – they must have enjoyed it. Two of them certainly did as Derek Cowden and Alan Erksen walked home with 43 points for a win with locals Steven Myburgh and Tony Power running second with 42.

Alan also got the only 2 club and Umko girl Karen Lithgow scooped our hidden holes. Looks like we’ll have to fill up the pools again. Our girls also got into the act with Pathma Moodley and Griet Viviers getting the opportunity to feel the weight of the Stone.

With the good weather out they came for last Friday’s 5 pin. There was a three way count out on 11 points with Mikhail van Braken getting the nod over Lynn Palmer and Terry Eaton. With spring gaining momentum and the Rugby World Cup on our blackout proof TVs, Friday nights are going to be festive at the club with all locals welcome if you’re on the blackout roster.

Last Saturday’s betterball was sponsored by P&G Construction with a few faces I haven’t seen before joining in. It turned out to be the Org Viviers day as he and mate Nikky Kloppers took the whisky with 43 points. Doc Mahabeer shrugged off last week’s Stone as he and Wayne Simpson took second with 42, just one ahead of playing opposition John Mills and Barry Kisten on 41.

Org then got nearest the pin on the 5th and rolled in the only 2 club with Johnny Bezuidenhout getting the 10th. Tony Power came off last Wednesday’s pedestal as he and Deane Jooste paid the price for the lowest score.
Halfway Toyota is sponsoring this Saturday’s (16th) combined Stableford.

Flyer’s footnote: No ‘instant golfer’ can ever do anything with a one iron except stir the braai coals.
