Scottburgh race a sizzling success

All sponsors and supporters are thanked.

The Scottburgh Athletic Club hosted its annual half marathon and 10km race last Sunday which was a huge success, despite the extreme heat.

There were 545 athletes that took part, including some notable entrants, too.

One of these was the legendary Blanche Moila, who made history in 1984 when she became the first black female athlete to be awarded Springbok colours.

She is still running strongly and continues to inspire, mentor and coach.

Another special entrant was South African elite athlete Lisa Collett, who won the ladies half marathon.
Everyone complimented the club on having more than enough refreshment stations with cold water and more – considering the heat.
There was a little race village at the finish with various vendors.

The first prize sponsors were The Cutty Sark and The Blue Marlin Hotels. Second prize was sponsored by The Lazy Moose.
The club also thanked residents and businesses in Scottburgh – too numerous to mention – for advertising the race, entering the race, exercising patience and caution during the day and, of course, for the wonderful support.
Refreshments stations were provided by Halfway Toyota, The Lazy Moose, Scottburgh Athletic Club members and families, DVH attorneys, The Blue Marlin Hotel, Scottfin and Hampsons Suzuki (who won the prize for best table).
The main sponsors of the day were Pick ‘n Pay at the mall, Halfway Toyota, Bevco (Coo ee) P&G Construction, Tomarosa and Shell on Scott Street.
