Welcome to the club, Seth

The club is pleased to see some new blood among its ranks.

Where else in the world do you get winter weather like ours? On the South Coast, every day is perfect for golf.

Whale watching has also become a popular pastime as the club veranda is an ideal place to sit and pass a few hours whale watching, while having a snack or a coffee or something stronger.

Wednesday’s Individual Stableford was played in a bit of a breeze and breezing round in 39 points was Captain Bob Hall.

Brian Richards, who is never far away, was two points further back on 37 and Org Viviers had 33 for a third place finish.

Graham Brown found the hidden holes and Wayne Simpson had the solitary 2-club. Mike Hogan once again funded the Stone’s upkeep.

It was a week of welcomes and farewells.

We welcomed newest junior member Seth Giradeau (12) and said farewell to Jack Cubitt.

He’s off to the Lone Star state of Texas to university, studying sports psychology and golf.

It was, however, up to dad Simon Cubitt on Friday afternoon in our five pin competition to show the twins who’s still the boss as he had 12 points to win.

He was followed by Jack or was it (his identical twin) Luke in second place with nine points?.

Saturdays game of fourball alliance was poorly attended probably as the miscreants were getting ready for the rugby or nursing a Friday night babalaas.

Bit of a cut-and-paste job as Brian Richards, Wayne Simpson, Denis Brown and Gary Jones topped the list with 83 points.

John Mills, Bob Hall, Tony Moore and Gauteng Nomad Peter Clarke were second with 80, Peter rolling in a 2-club.

In third place on 73 points were Mick Marriot, Geoff Thommasen, Deane Jooste and Graham ‘2-club’ Brown.

Picking the best seats in the club for the rugby and picking up the Stone were Russel Freeman, Mike Bremner, Clyde Leisegang and Dave Meredith.

The pub and lounge were both packed solid as word got out that Jenny Rator was on standby at the club, should our inconsiderate power supply not play ball.

Jenny came into her own, albeit a little fractious at times, and we enjoyed a thrilling game.

Coming up on Wednesday is a betterball Stableford and on Saturday it’s the P&G Construction day.

The list for the championships is looking rather bleak. Should we not get double the listed amount we will have to cancel the champs for this year.

Flyer’s footnote: I’ve never seen the cup move towards the ball, so why do we leave putts short?
