Meanwhile, Gavin Sole almost got snagged by Mike Anthony in the men's matchplay final.

Solange Fox and Jo Ledden won the Noelle Edwards Trophy at Southbroom Golf Club last Saturday on 38 points, counting out Jill Webster and Sandy FitzGerald. Two points behind were Shelley Myers and Janet Lehmann.

In the men’s section, winners on the day were Peter and Ross Kupisiewicz on 43 points, counting out Gary Purtell and Andre Attfield.

Tied for third on 42 points were Alex and Ken Crawford, as well as John Fox and Gavin Sole.

In fifth spot were Rob Meydell and Emil Hierhold.

Meanwhile, Gavin Sole almost got snagged by Mike Anthony in the men’s matchplay final.

There are countless Interprovincial golfers Gavin would rather play ahead of Mike, such is the latter’s ability to lift his game for exactly this occasion.

The Big Fish took a comfortable enough lead through nine holes, 2-up.

Then he bogeyed the 10th and Mike made birdies on 11, 12 and 13.

Unfortunately for him he bogeyed 14, 16 and 18 to let Gavin in for his 11th consecutive title.

The previous Wednesday’s competition (with all scores to count on the 9th and 18th holes) was won by Johan Wentzel, Brian Jolliffe and Graham Sole on 93 points.

Runners-up were Gary Purtell, Nicky Smith, Nic Sproule and Phil Verwey on 91 points, with Rob Meydell, Bob Clark, Mike Lig and Bruce Matthew next on 90 points, followed by Andre Steyn, Andre Ollewagen, W Ollewagen and E Burger on 89 points.

Chicken Run: Alex Crawford 20 pts, Matt Cowley 18 pts, Geoff Skelton 18 pts.
