Striders’ Liandi shines at biathlon champs

The club will hold an AGM at the clubhouse in Uvongo on Saturday, April 23 at 14:00, to present the 2021 financial calendar after a delay caused by Covid-19.

The South Coast Striders Athletics Club proved they not only have depth in their club, but fresh young blood ready to take the athletics world by storm.

This comes through 16 year old Liandi du Toit of Uvongo and a member of Striders, who finished in second place at the South African Biathlon Championships held at the Westbourne Oval in Gqeberha last weekend.

“I really didn’t expect to come second as it was only my first year participating in biathlons, but I really enjoyed it and would definitely do it again, and encourage children on the South Coast to also take part,” Liandi said.

Her second place finish saw her complete the race with a total of 2096.09 points, in a time of 1.10.27 in the 100m swim and a time of 2.72.09 in the 800m run.

The Striders are also part of a South Coast time trial league that consists of Scottburgh, Amanzimtoti, Bluff, Umgababa and Yellowwood Park athletics clubs.

South Coast Striders will host the event on Wednesday, April 27. It is a team (4) event and the team must consist of two men and two women.

The club will hold an AGM at the clubhouse in Uvongo on Saturday, April 23 at 14:00, to present the 2021 financial calendar after a delay caused by Covid-19.

A special general meeting will be held on the same day to vote on a colour change on the current shorts and tights. All paid up members are encouraged to attend and vote. A social will be held afterwards.

Club members who are able to attend and are in need of proxy forms, please contact Deborah Berridge on 072 1322006.
