Birdies galore as Eagles find form at Umdoni

The results were calculated by Gus Crous and his helpers and were completed just minutes after the last four ball handed in their scorecard.

Umdoni Park Golf Club was the venue for the monthly game of the Village Eagles and 72 Eagles were not surprised to find the golf course in immaculate condition.

Well, if anybody wants to challenge that statement I simply ask him/her or them to see the results sheet.

Scores were high and a record number of 2-clubs were recorded which is testimony to my opening statement.

Best lady and man on the day were Bryony Rogers and Peter Braithwaite.

Someone did mention that the rough was a bit long, but he was soon reminded that there is no long grass on the fairways and he was fined a hefty R5 at the prize-giving.

Of course, golf courses do not manicure themselves so thanks go to the Umdoni Park management for giving us the privilege of competing at Umdoni.

Special thanks to Venie Kallie and Pam Pillay in the pro shop for their help.

At the prize-giving, time was taken to remember Peter Woolcock, a long standing and well-loved member of the Village Eagles, who sadly died about two weeks ago.

He will be remembered and missed by us all. Thoughts and condolences are with Ellie Woolcock and Peter’s family and friends.

And now to justify the opening statement. Winners on the day were Mervyn Perry, Peter Braithwaite, Ben Enslin and Steve Padgett on an alliance score of 103 points.

I repeat, you cannot score 103 points on a goat track. Even the second placed team of Steve Oliver, Athol Lawrence, Dave Jack and Dennis Middlemiss were up there with 97 points.

Best Lady was Bryony Rogers on 37 individual points and Peter Braithwaite took the men’s prize on 45 points. To add to the high scoring, 13 of the 72 golfers recorded a two club on the short holes.
