Village golfers enjoy pristine Selborne Park

The rescheduled game a week later was played in what can only be described as perfect golf weather. Are we complaining? Not at all.

There are some days when all four seasons come and show themselves in a single 24 hour time span. Well, the Village Eagles had at least two of those seasons express themselves in a week. The scheduled Eagles game at Selborne had to be postponed because of cold and very wet weather.

The rescheduled game a week later was played in what can only be described as perfect golf weather. Are we complaining? Not at all.

The welcome rain has turned the local golf courses into pristine layouts and Selborne is no exception. Thanks to the management and staff at Selborne for accommodating our change in arrangements and for providing us with such a lovely manicured golf course.

Winners (from left) Estelle Binnekade, Patrick Sheehan, Billy Adam and Rob Binnekade.

Tuesday is known in these parts as Pensioner’s Day with retailers at the Scottburgh Mall offering discounts to those who have left all the work to younger folk. Even those special offers did not keep our loyal members away. Credit to each and every member who changed their plans to tee up and compete for the many prizes on offer.

With food prices what they are today we are glad that we were able to offer a cheaper way of spending a Tuesday morning than handing over a credit card to a till operator at that well known food retailer up the road. The snacks after the game would have made up for that missing potato that should have been on the dinner plate.

While some of the Eagles were flying high and wide there were four of the flock that flew long and straight.

Rob Binnekade, Estelle Binnekade, Billy Adam and Patrick Sheehan came in with an Alliance score of exactly 100 points beating the rest of the field by a whopping 11 points.

No surprise then that the fourball also brought home the Best Man and Best Lady Golfers. Patrick and Estelle took home the relative trophies. Flying high and wide were Ben Enslin, Pete Woolcock, Piet Els and Steve Stead who are now the proud owners of the Stones Trophy.

Our next game is at Scottburgh Golf Club so I am sure that another day will be enjoyed by all.
