Sub-par scores at Umkomaas

It’s great to see Lesa back on the course after several months recovering from a leg injury she sustained slipping in the mud on the 4th earlier this year.

Forty-seven golfers took part in the betterball medal competition at Umkomaas Golf Club last Saturday, which saw some excellent, sub-par scores take the prizes. Winners were Dean Naicker and Kuben Naidoo whose combined efforts saw them score nett 64, six better than par. Second place was determined on a count-out with Dave Mulroy and Don Bradshaw pipping Dave Kemp and Robbie Matthias on nett 65.

Husband and wife team, Keith and Lesa Vergottini, managed third place with 66 nett.

Kuben Naidoo took the jackpot money with 10 points over the allocated four holes, and the 2-club pot was shared equally between Jacques Hulley and Russell Cumming.

It’s wonderful to see our new members’ golf coming along so well. Mags van der Heever is certainly going great guns winning Wednesday’s IPS competition with 44 points.

No doubt that handicap will be coming down too. Second place on an equally impressive score of 41 points was Piet Vermaak.

In preparation for the next inter-region matches scheduled to take place in Dundee the first week in September, the two South Coast Region sides played one another in the Foursomes Fundraiser held at Selborne on Sunday.

And although our ladies in the SCR Mkuhla team, Natalie Singer and Sabiha Hulley, managed a 3/2 victory over their SCR Umdoni counterparts, the Umdoni team emerged victorious on the day.

It was a lucky day for Natalie as her ticket was pulled as winner of the wonderful raffle hamper.

Thanks to Leanne Parsons, SCR President, for her excellent organisational skills in putting together the tournament, and for enabling the region to generate more than R12 000 in funds towards the inter-region expenses.
