Something a little different at Scottburgh Golf Club

Sixty seven was the winning score with drawn partners John Mills and Denis Brown.

Here’s a little poem – heard at the currently non-existent 19th – to get things going this week.

“Chief Beki Cele runs through the town, Up streets down roads in his cami gown, Checking at the robots, waiting at the stops, Are all the Saffers in their homes, It’s past 9 o’clock.” (Apologies to Wee Willy Winkie)

On a more serious note, there was a game with a difference at Scottburgh Golf Club Wednesday – a Combined Stableford with a ghost partner.

Sixty seven was the winning score with drawn partners John Mills and Denis Brown.

Six shots behind were Tony Power and Craig Brown on 61, John and Tony having the only 2-clubs and Thys Swart with Deane Jooste taking their place in the queue to hoist the Stone.

The birthday bash on Saturday, played as an Alliance, got off to a somewhat breezy start after the very welcome rain we had on Friday night.

No surprises here as Tony Power, Hans Beuthe, Brian Richards and Denis Brown cantered in with 90 points, blowing everybody away.

A distant six shots behind were Coenie du Bruyn, Herman Grotius, Gary Jones and Deane Jooste, who in turn were four ahead of Hilton McAuliffe, Willy Creaney and Dave Meredith with a ghost to make up.

Ian Walker’s team of Russel Freeman, Mike Bremner and Clyde Liesagang will also be donating to the kitty once the pub opens with their contribution to the upkeep of the Stone.

Hans Beuthe found the hidden holes with Denis Brown Hilton McAuliffe, Thys Swart and Barry Kisten with two, rolling in birdies on the par threes.

On Wednesday it’s a betterball Stableford and on Saturday the first monthly medal of the year thanks to Halfway Toyota.

Flyer’s footnote: Water holes are sacrificial places on a golf course where you make a steady gift of your pride and expensive golf balls to the golfing gods.
