Eley’s ace agony at Selborne Park

The Flyer is back again reporting for Scottburgh Golf Club after a relapse but all’s well.

Last week I heard that Mike Eley aced the 4th at Selborne Park, unfortunately it was with his provisional as his original was somewhere the caddies won’t find it.

Hard luck, Mike but now you know the feeling that has deprived many of us.

It was a beautiful morning, blue skies and the surf crashing on the beach as we said farewell to Brett Rowe at Happy Wanderers.

This was Brett’s favourite beach as he had managed Happy Wanderers for many years.

From there some of us celebrated his life in the club competition and others celebrated elsewhere in true Brett fashion.

As with all who those have gone before, we shall remember him.

Wednesday’s game was affected by the early morning weather and many ‘fair weather golfers’ pulled out.

What a pity as the afternoon barometer changed to fair .

The hardier boys set off and were rewarded with a pleasant afternoon’s golf.

Due to the small field only one prize was awarded which went to Tony Power and Graham Brown, scoring 60 in a combined Stableford.

Thys Swart is becoming a regular walker to the Captain’s table judging from the file whilst I have been incapacitated and once again on Saturday, along with Gary Jones he cleaned up, albeit on a three way count out on 42 points.

Second was Wayne Simpson along with the ‘tokoloshe’ and in third, usual suspects Brian Richards and Hand Beuthe.

Anton Visage and Mike Hogan picked up the Stone.

Flyer’s footnote: Have you noticed that the people who invented golf, calling it fun, also invented the bagpipes and call it music.
