Elite karateka bag more medals

The Ugu Spring Karate Championships is to be held at Port Shepstone Secondary School in Marburg on Saturday, November 2.

The last of the KSA Karate League events for the year was held recently in Tongaat, Durban.

A group of students from Suid Natal Martial Arts Academy represented Ugu and the province at this elite event which attracts the top karateka from around the country.

Tyler Hogan received three medals, namely gold for team kumite, silver for kata and bronze for individual kumite in the boys junior 16/17 category.

Wian de Beer received a silver in boys 10/11 over 45kg kumite division.

Divan du Toit received a bronze in the boys 12/13 years under 50kg kumite division.

Marcel du Toit received a bronze in the boys 10/11 years under 45kg kumite division.

Ugu chairman, Sensei Coenie Vrey said he was extremely proud of all the karateka who have competed throughout the year and continually brought medals back to the region.

He is now looking forward to the Ugu Spring Karate Championships to be held at Port Shepstone Secondary in Marburg on Saturday, November 2.
