Karateka hold own at national level

Organisation was slick and the refereeing of a very high standard.

WELL done to the Wkf Ugu Karate students who achieved regional and provincial development colours and competed at the Karate South Africa All Styles Development National Tournament held in Durban.

Four dojos from Port Shepstone were represented, those led by Sensei Coenie Vrey, Shihan Frank Moodley, Sensei Elsie Pretorius and Sensei Grant Selkon, as well as one from Umzinto, Sempai Eden Jackson.

This was a national tournament of only affiliated karate styles and is held annually to promote, develop and give karate students the opportunity to compete and improve in the sport.

Karateka from as far afield as Limpopo, Gauteng and the Western Cape travelled to Durban to take part.

Taking part in the Karate South Africa all styles development champs are (back, from left) Shihan Frank Moodley, Sensei Elsie Pretorius, Sensei Coenie Vrey and Sensei Grant Selkon; (middle) Travis Campher, Lincoln Chateau, Ayushman Kalicharan, Tinielle Burger, Richie Swanepoel, Tiaan Retief; (front) André Beneke, Miguel Gous, Blake Hogan, Ciandri du Preez, Tyrese Faro, Savir Ghingai and Dylan Peeriyalal.

Organisation was slick and the refereeing of a very high standard.

Students competed in unison kata, kata and kumite and won medals in all three disciplines.
