Development colours for karate students

Shakira won bronze in kata in the 16-17 year old division. She is now hard at work training for next year's elite tournament.

STUDENTS from Sensei Elsie Pretorius and Sensei Grant Selkon’s dojo Shito-ryu South Coast/Port Shepstone achieved Karate KwaZulu-Natal development colours (white to purple belt) at the KZN all styles trials held in Tongaat recently.

They are Lincoln Chateau (gold kumite), Preson Nichols (bronze kumite), André Beneke (silver kumite), Richie Swanepoel (gold kumite) and Travis Campher (gold kumite, bronze kata).

They will now go forward to represent Wkf Ugu Karate Region and KKZNatal development team at the Karate South Africa All Styles Development Tournament in Durban.

In other news, Shakira Coetzer took part the Karate KwaZulu-Natal Women’s Cup held in Tongaat recently.

It was organised especially to honour women in karate in South Africa.

Girls and women from the age of seven years old to 21 years old competed in both kata and kumite.
