Sandi Johnston is victorious at Margate Country Club

Heber de Beer had an extremely rare shot for five, a two-club eagle on the 6th hole (stroke 1) during the business day last Friday, pushing his team into second place on the day.

It was a busy week at Margate Country Club, with some great scores and extraordinary happenings.

The highlight for Sandi Johnston was winning the silver division in the ladies’ club championships.

She shot 174 over 36 holes, to win by seven from Wilna Olkers.

Bronze division champion was Barbara Jackson on 190 gross, by two from Jane Davies.

Mike Jones was in good form and easily broke 80 for the first time in what he said was a very long time and also his first time at Margate CC.

The visiting Cotterrell family also shone, especially young Matt, shooting one of his lowest scores and winning on the day, with dad Brett also getting closest to the pin on the 16th.

Thank you to the PALS (Pets and Little Souls) Foundation for sponsoring the Saturday competition on June 29, which was won on 47 points by Peter McCarthy and Greg Litkie.

They counted out Ronnie Mtshaka and Koko Zithumane.

In third were Philip van Loggenberg and Matt Cotterrell on 46 points.

The competition last Tuesday was won by Wondra Bothma on 42 points, with Lesley Erasmus next on 38 points.

Wednesday Wobblers winners were Hanz Dallinger, Louie Gouws and Dave Morrison on 84 points, on a countout from Nico van Vuuren, Alan Davies and Mike Silverman.

The Thursday competition was won by Matt Cotterrell on 40 points, by three from Alan Davies.

Business day last Friday was won by Robert Mavundla, Sbu Ntozakhe, Abe Sidumo and Wonderboy Nxumalo on 92 points.

Runners-up were Johan Neetling, Jaco van der Wal, Piet Fourie and Heber de Beer on 91 points.

Ron Scowby and Robin Shuttleworth won last Saturday’s competition on 45 points, on a countout from Mike Lee and Rob Weyer.
