Track Torque: Hamilton unbeatable at Spa

Spa again played host to a vey fast race.

LEWIS Hamilton was in a class of his own, from qualifying to the chequered flag, at the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend.

Sebastian Vettel drove a fantastic race for second place, but despite getting level with Hamilton at one stage, just could not pass him.

Vettel did however set a new lap record with his fastest lap of 1:46:05 secs in the latter stages.

Hamilton made it very difficult to set up a successful overtaking manoeuvre but we enjoyed really top driving from these two racing greats.

Lewis now has 58 grand prix wins. He is on 213 points not far behind Vettel on 220.

As for the rest of the field, the Red Bulls did a wonderful job via Max Verstappen whose car let him down with no drive in the early part of the race.

Teammate Daniel Ricciardo took over and drove a magnificent race into third place on the podium.

Kimi Raikkonen was again unlucky, this time because he did not slow down under the yellow flags and was punished by the stewards.

His fourth place finish was not a true reflection of how well he had performed over the weekend.

Valtteri Bottas was also a bit below par with his fifth place finish.

The Renaults are starting to show better form and although Jolyon Palmer had a less lucky weekend, teammate Nico Hulkenberg did very well to finish sixth.

Behind him was Romain Grosjean, seventh in the Haas.

Felipe Massa was eighth in the Williams and Esteban Ocon ninth in the Force India after he and teammate Sergio Perez nearly took each other out of the race in a ridiculous overtaking move.

Carlos Sainz was in the last points position in his Toro Rosso.

It had been an intense race with perhaps less overtaking than one would have liked although there were some very brave overtaking manoeuvres and some very stupid ones!

Spa showed us its greatness from all aspects as a hugely challenging track. In some ways we were lucky to have it all dry for a change but a wet one always makes it that much more exciting.

Roll on Monza this Sunday where we can watch the Italian Grand Prix.

The Tifosi will virtually be demanding a Ferrari win and I think they could just possibly make it a 1-2 if Vettel and Raikkonen are both on top of their form.

Qualifying will be at 2pm on Saturday and the first of 53 laps will start at 3pm on Sunday.
