Magical golf scores at Margate CC

Winter golf has proven popular.

THERE was some fantastic golf played at Margate Country Club during the past week.

The Ladies’ Open Day last week Tuesday was won by Jenny Hulley and Gloria Lundie of Port Shepstone CC on 50 points.

Runners-up were Beryl Olden and Cecelia Verster on 46 points.

There was was a three-way tie on 45 points, shared by Joan Minnaar and Elsie Pretorius, Irene Schanda and Shelley Myers, as well as Sandi Johnston and Antoinette Stoppel.

Wobblers’ alliance was won on 87 points by Eddie Gommersall, Louie Gouws and Johan Heslop.

Runners-up were Peter Rogers, Otto Mutschler and Thys Bothma on 85 points, followed by Jim Finn, Peter Hunter and Brian Jeffreys on 84 points.

The Arthur Tomlinson Floater went to Dave Morrison, Dave Parsons and Bob Weanie on 71 points.

Thursday’s Carriera/Curlewis Cup, sponsor Margate Pro Shop (Week 21) was won on 43 points by Frikkie van Zyl.

Runner-up was Angus McLachlan on 41 points, counting out Fanie Terblanche.

Nearest the pins were John Webster (11th) and Joe Espach (16th).

Saturday’s Sanlam Cansa Challenge winners were Ronnie Mtshaka (A division on 39 points), Jim Finn (B division on 40 points) and Edwin Steyn (C division on 46 points).

Nearest the pins were Robin Shuttleworth (4th) and Una McLachlan (11th).

Johann Erasmus had a hole-in-one on the 16th. Many thanks from the members for ringing the bell in the bar.

Women winners were Sandi Johnston (A division 39 points) and Una McLachlan (B division 41 points)
