Gavin and Heather tops at Southbroom Golf Club

Southbroom Golf Club held its championships last weekend.

THE Southbroom Golf Club Championships were contested last weekend with Gavin Sole taking the A Division lead on Saturday with a 66 and carding 74 on Sunday to cement an unassailable final score of 140.

Runner-up Gary Purtell, way off the pace with his first round 78, couldn’t make up the gap on Sunday and finished with 154, beating Kevin Murray (162) into third place.

B Division produced a closer-fought competition, with Grant Richards taking the honours on 165, ahead of George Haynes (175) and Osie Osborne (178).

C division winner, with 72 Stableford points, was Malcolm Moorley, runner-up Gerald Fitzgerald (71) third Simon Shusha (68).

Silver winner in the women’s competition was Heather Anderson, who carded 178 over the two days, followed by Janet Humphrey with 180. Bronze winner in the medal section was Shelley Myers (190) with runner-up Regina Bosshart (196) and Anita Landolf in third place, also on 196.

Bronze Stableford C Division was won by Michelle Davies with 63 points, from Jeanette Peyios with 57 points.

In the individual Stableford competitions played last Wednesday, the men’s competition was won by Don Osbourn on 44 pts, from Olliver Ransome on 40 pts, Paul Cole on 37 pts and Gavin Sole on 36 pts.

Women’s winner, Alexandra Huber with 37 pts beat Heather Anderson by just one point, with Lorraine Cook and Sharon Turnbull-Jackson tied for third place on 32 pts.
