Wentzel is no mug

THE women’s comp was rained off last Tuesday, while the Wobblers game the following day was won by Rolf Spielmann, Rob Brien and Derek Egerton on 90 points.

In a tie for second on 86 points were Wimpie Jordaan, Hans Beilhartz and Richard Plaskitt, as well as Cyril Greensmith, Otto Mutschler and Thys Bothma.

Thursday’s comp was won by Neil Townsend on 43 points, by one from Louie Carriera.

Saturday’s monthly medal honours went the way of Johan Wentzel (A div on nett 72), Graeme Massam (B div on nett 68), and Brian Jeffreys (C div on nett 69).

The women’s comp saw Margaret Taylor win on nett 72.

Sunday’s Noelle Edwards mixed comp was won by visitors Johan and Elsie Pretorius on 50 points, but the trophy went to members Mike and Ann Williams on 46 points.

 

Captain Matthew rules

THE Pharaoh’s Construction golf day at Southbroom Golf Club last Friday was won by club captain Derrik Matthew, Bruce Matthew, Jim Flynn and Geoff Skelton.

Second spot in the play-off went to Don Osbourn, Norman Farrell, Tony Holness and John Neaves.

Geraldine Treherne won the women’s comp last Wednesday on 33 points, edging out Heather Anderson and Rene Matthew by one.

Gavin Sole won the monthly medal on nett 67. He tried a new claw putting grip, but abandoned it after 13 holes – and then made four birdies to close.

In second place on nett 70 were Mike Jacquet and Chris Poole.

Cleve Walker won the Stableford on 41 points, by five from Lance Marshall and Rob Meydell.

Saturday’s comp saw Champagne Day take place for the women.

Mary Carolan and Karen Asbock placed first on 43 points, one ahead of Joy Crutchfield and Sandy Luus , as well as Candida Amm and Jean Purtell.

Dave Page and Heiner Hedtrich cleaned up in the men’s comp on a sensational 52 points, five ahead of Gary Purtell and Alister Brown.

The Casa Toscana Ristorante Sunday Any Mix Open takes place at Southbroom this Sunday, February 28. The format is fourball alliance and entry fee is R175.

 

Carr accelerates again

FRANK Carr won the Coffin Dodgers’ game at Port Edward Country Club on 39 points last Tuesday, counting out James Fergus.

Eugene Orsmond won the Chicken Run last Friday on 22 points.

The Halfway Toyota sponsored day last Saturday was won by Rodney Lowe and James Fergus on 47 points.

On 46 points were John Fourie and Mark Crawford, as well as Martyn Nagtegaal and Roy Watkins.

Great golf
Hot start: Naveshin Moodley (right) won the first Pro Vision league of the year, played at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday. Presenting him with his trophy is Yugeshan Naidoo. Naveshin carded 40 points, on a count out from Ashoo Singh.

Loring wins by two

KEVIN Loring won the comp at Port Shepstone Country Club on 38 points last Wednesday, two ahead of both Greg Hornby and Phil Myburgh.

Yzelle Greyling carded 37 points last Saturday, to win by one from Charles Hulley and Gavin van Wyk.

The Ugu Surfing District Golf Day will take place this Saturday, February 27.
