Soccer legend’s legacy lives on

Strini Moodley's memory was kept alive at the tournament named in his honour.

PORT Shepstone Senior Primary won the 2014 Strini Moodley Junior Soccer Tournament held at its grounds last Saturday. Ten schools took part in the fifth edition of this annual event.

The competition was very tough in the group stages, but it was quite evident who the top teams were going to be.

Last year’s winner, Marburg Primary did not fare well this year and did not make it out of the group stages.

Merlewood, Jai Hind, Port Shepstone Primary and Port Shepstone Senior Primary qualified for the semi-finals.

In the first semi-final, Port Shepstone Senior Primary overcame a brave Jai Hind side by two goals to nil.

Port Shepstone Primary booked its place in the final by beating Merlewood by two goals to nil.

Port Shepstone Senior Primary and Port Shepstone Primary contested the final. They proved to be the two best teams on the day.

The first half was tough, but Port Shepstone Senior Primary slowly began to dominate the match. Its players’ fitness and skills made them too powerful for Port Shepstone Primary and eventually they won, three goals to nil.

Two of the goals were scored by the captain and Man of the Match, Mlungisi Mabaso. The family of Strini Moodley thanks all sponsors, family and friends for making this tournament a major success.
