Erika and Fritz ace obstacle course

Members are reminded that lessons are now 45 minutes instead of an hour and training starts at 2pm.

AT the Hibiscus Kennel Club (HKC) on July 19, trainers set up various games incorporating simple obedience commands for the dogs, such as ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘down’, while handlers had to follow commands posted along the course.

There was also an agility obstacle course enabling all dogs to take part, but some handlers were a bit confused by the gate which had to be opened and closed. Erika Albrecht and Fritz did this in record time because Fritz just stepped over the gate.

It was a special day for the HKC German team which arrived waving and wearing Germany colours. Erika reminded everyone that last year Germany partied after losing the World Cup and this year they partied even harder after winning. Although only one team won, all were winners with the great fun and quality time spent with the dogs.

The club was sad to hear that Elsie and Peter Mc Killen lost their beloved Jess even though the vet tried his very best to save her. At a time like this, pets remind us how quickly situations can change.

At the show held in Scottburgh recently, results were: Contact, grade 1, second – Tracy Norton and Badger, which puts Badger in grade 2 now.

Dog jumping grade 3, first – Gaby Frey and Scooby; jump off, second – Ninette Smith and Sparkle; dog jumping grade 6, first – Jane Cruickshank and Mackie; third – Jenny Robertson and Jodie; non-contact, grade 2, second, Sue McCay and Gita with championship certificate, and fourth in carting.

Congratulations to Tracy Norton and Badger on achieving 98 percent for ‘Beginners’ Obedience’ at a show held in Amanzimtoti recently, as well as to Billy-Anne Engelbrecht for doing so well in a modelling competition. Arriving at the club a little late with hair flowing, face made up and nails painted, Billy-Anne had Gunner under her arm all ready to train.
