Shiro, Deryn and Ozz achieve champion status

South Coast dogs and handlers received many certificates at the recent championships.

SOUTH Coast dog handlers have been very busy and recently took part in the Natal Terrier Club Championship show held at the Ashley Sports Club in Pinetown for breed, as well as the Natal Gundog Championship show for agility.

Thanks to Jean Whittaker and Bernice Smit for saving the day by arranging an alternate venue for the agility event after an unfortunate mix-up. Well done to Barbara Egan and Deryn, who is now a certified dog jumping champion.

Events at Ashley included the Durban and district, Natal Toy Dog Club, and the Pietermaritzburg Kennel Club Championship Breed shows.

Results: Contact, grade 3, large, first Swift and Gail Taylor; medium, first Page and Heather Moorcroft; small, first Shiro and Elsie Pretorius; third Sophie and Gail Taylor; grade 2, medium, first Miko and Elsie Pretorius; second Mindy and Bernice Smit; grade 1, small, first Po and Michelle Howard.

Non-contact, grade 3, large, first Ozz and Ninette Smith (with championship certificate), third Sparkle and Ninette Smith, and Romulas with Ann Shaw; small, third Shiro and Elsie Pretorius; grade 2, large, second Quin and Barbara Egan; small, first Chloe and Sheldene Smit.

Grade 1, medium, first Mindy and Bernice Smit. Dog jumping, grade 1, first Deryn and Barbara Egan (with championship certificate); second Tara and Ann Shaw. Grade 5, second Sparkle and Ninette Smith.Grade 3, second Miko and Elsie Pretorius; Grade 4, first Po and Michelle Howard.

Breed, Terrier Club Championship show: Whitebriar Just Tickle Me (import New Zealand); best West Highland white terrier puppy and best puppy in show, Durban and district Kennel Club championship show, terrier group, Whitebriar Just Tickle Me (Import New Zealand) best West Highland white terrier puppy and best puppy in terrier group.

Herding group: Kenstaff Red Hot Special (Austrian shepherd) got reserve championship certificate in open class, handled by Anne Holder; champion Kaleidostar America’s next top Model of Solarflare (import Hungary) won best champion bitch, handled by Christeen McGovern; champion Kenstaff ‘Feel the Heat’ Fyre (Australian shepherd) handled by Chelsey McGovern, received reserve champion certificate in breed.

Gundog group: Owned by Christeen McGovern and handled by Lois Wilson, Springer spaniel Whitesqualls High Fashion (aka Glamour) won championship certificate and best of breed. Durban and district, Natal Toy Dog Club and Pietermaritzburg championship shows toy group, Aurispa MinnaMoo at LaLunaBlu (Chinese crested), owned and handled by Michelle Howard, won championship certificate in the puppy group at all three shows, and was reserve best puppy in toy group at two shows.

Bred by Michelle Howard and owned and handled by Lois Wilson, Aurispa Ready Teady Go to Sibra won best puppy in two of the three shows, one group award and placed fourth in the show and second in group for Pietermaritzburg.

Chelsey McGovern finished second in the junior handler division with Australian shepherd champion Kenstaff Feel the Heat Fyre at the Durban and district championship show and third in Pietermaritzburg. Kegan Perry finished second in the junior handler event with Flash the Staffie.
