Mickey’s star is on the rise

The all-rounder is making exciting progress.

WHEN you think of the name Mickey and link it to cricket, you’ll most probably think of Mickey Arthur, the man who coached both South Africa (successfully) and Australia (not quite so).

However, South Coasters should take note of another Mickey, a local boy who is making good in Durban.

The cricketer in question is Mickey Hay of Umtentweni, who is going into matric at Glenwood High in 2014.

He’s a product of Izotsha Primary and he’s taken the skills he learnt there and honed them at Glenwood.

He had a pretty good year on the cricket field in 2013, taking wickets with his spin bowling and weighing in with some very useful runs.

During the December holidays he played for the KwaZulu-Natal U17 at CSA National Week in Stellenbosch.

His selection came on the back of some excellent cricket during Michaelmas Cricket Week in Pietermaritzburg a few months ago, where he produced the goods for Glenwood.

He was superb against St John’s, making 58* and taking 6/31 to help Glenwood to a 32 run win. His opponents were a bit tired of him by the end of that match!

From the moment he could walk, he has loved all ball sports. He’s tested his skills at rugby, soccer, table tennis, running and swimming, but cricket is without doubt his first love.

Mickey’s leadership skills have also been recognised and he has been named as a prefect for next year.
