THE recent wet weather has caused havoc with the Hibiscus Kennel Club’s training schedules but the continuing poor state of the borough grounds is of grave concern as the field is still strewn with debris and the grass is so long that it has now become dangerous for man and beast. The little dogs cannot see over the grass and this is both stressful and tiring for them.
Ever hopeful and optimistic, club tests will be held on November 30 and the club’s annual year-end party and prize-giving on Saturday, December 7 at 2pm which all former members and puppies which have completed a course with K9 Puppy Academy are invited to attend. This will be the last meeting of the year and members are asked to bring a plate of eats.
Congratulations to Sharon Derman on her fourth Border collie, Flash, a rescue from Kokstad SPCA who is so lucky to have found a home with the Derman family. Linda Lyte has also rescued a little ‘girl’ from the Lower South Coast SPCA. She has been renamed Nutmeg and is a surprise packet, depending from which angle you look at her. After being abandoned and left locked up on the verandah with a bowl of food when her owners left, young Nutmeg is one of the ‘lucky ones’.
Other news is that Liz Fourie has acquired another poodle so the dog membership is certainly growing.
The club is also growing as an agility competing group and had four members attend a recent show at Scottburgh where three members returned home with prizes.
