Family needs help to find missing son

At the time of his disappearance, it is believed Alwande Dlamini from Umlazi was on his way to Murchison, near Port Shepstone.

A distraught Umlazi family is in need of the public’s help to find their missing 18-year-old son, Alwande Dlamini.

Alwande was last seen on Saturday, September 2 on his way to school to attend extra classes for matriculants at Menzi High School in Umlazi BB section.

His mother Hlengiwe Dlamini said after Alwande failed to return home that afternoon, she was informed that he did not attend the class, however was seen hiking on the N2 near Umgababa on his way to Mtwalume.

Alwande Dlamini was last seen wearing his school uniform and carrying his backpack.

“We received more information that he was hiking from Mtwalume that same afternoon, wanting a lift to Murchison where he was going to meet his father’s family. We do not have any relatives on the South Coast, or in Murchison. We have never set foot there, said Dlamini.

Hlengiwe said Alwande was wearing his grey school pants, a white shirt and a grey tie with blue stripes.

“When he left home, he did not show any signs of anger or depression, and it’s strange that he just left home and went to a town he does not even know. He has no mental health condition, however, considering that he has travelled this far for so many days he might be confused, “said Dlamini.

The family has tried searching for him at local hospitals, police stations, Murchison and Mtwalume taxi ranks, even at the mortuary but haven’t found him.

A missing person’s case has been opened at Umlazi police station.
Anyone with any information or who has seen Alwande is urged to contact his mother, Hlengiwe Dlamini on 073 9426724 or Nelly Zuke on 072 4713920.
