Hospice fun walk meets targets

The fun walk/run raised R9 527 for ongoing patient care and R3 000 worth of products.

When South Coast Hospice and its community come together, it becomes a celebration where they all can share their stories. There are some tears but mostly joyous laughter in celebration of life.

Sheila Smook, the much-loved retired nurse, last rode in a sidecar in 1948 when she went for a walk about in her home village of Pennington. Her grandma became concerned and sent a policeman to find her; not long after, she returned home riding in his sidecar.

Ramsgate Lions hands over a donation.

On Heritage Day, BT King arranged a bucket list wish for her, and Smookie, as she is known, took off next to her very handsome Viking biker for a spin.

Hospice believes in bucket lists and wishes. A patient whose wish was for Skyi, her much-loved companion, to visit her in the In-Patient Unit had her wish granted, and she was comforted by her companion in the hospice unit.

The fun walk/run raised R9 527 for ongoing patient care and R3 000 worth of products.

South Coast Hospice thanks the community, friends, patients, bikers, service clubs, runners, parkrun walkers and holiday friends.
