New toilets for four rural schools

Smangele Tshabalala said they invested in education to restore the dignity of learners who used terrible ablution facilities.

The NPC Huaxin’s ablution facility development projects at four Ugu schools have been welcomed by the communities of benefiting schools in KwaNyuswa, Oshabeni and KwaNdwalane traditional authorities in Port Shepstone.

The schools, Sineke Primary in KwaNyuswa, Olwandle High in KwaMavundla, Cophela Primary in Oshabeni and Madakane Primary in KwaNdwalane have benefited from improved and revamped sanitation facilities, including new toilets, water infrastructure and water tanks, all donated by NPC Huaxin.

NPC Huaxin’s spokesperson, Smangele Tshabalala, said they invested in education to restore the dignity of learners who used terrible ablution facilities.

“NPC Simuma and Margate quarries identified a need to assist schools from neighbouring communities with renovations of ablution facilities as part of our social and labour plan projects. The projects were approved by the Department of Education in Ugu District. The main aim of the project is to contribute to the eradication of pit toilets in rural schools. We are proud to have made a positive impact in the lives of the children in these schools,” said Tshabalala.

He added that these community development projects are meant to make life easier for today’s learners and future generations. “The projects are part of our corporate social investment programmes aimed at uplifting our local communities.”

Sineke Primary’s principal, Thembi Zama, said they are grateful to NPC Huaxin’s investment in their school. “They revamped our ablution block; before their intervention, we were ashamed of our facilities,” said Zama.
