Fashion enthusiasts enjoy business fair

Organisers of the Annual South Coast Business Fair said the event employed 65 people.

The second annual South Coast Business Fair, held at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre last Saturday, was a success.

This was shared by the organiser, Makhosi Ntshangase, who said the event has grown in its second edition.

Ntshangase said the fair aimed to promote and assist businesses with access to the local market.

The business fair featured an exhibition for small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs), a sewing competition, a fashion show and an awards ceremony.

Philiswa Ntozakhe took first place in the sewing bee competition, Fundiswa Bhengu placed second and Thabisile Mzindle third.

For the fashion show, Precious Lulu Couture won the Best Collection award and bagged an all-expenses paid trip to Seychelles Fashion Week sponsored by the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (Edtea).

Romeo Paul won Best International Fashion Designer, Jado Mjadu won Best Ladies Wear, Enhle Babes Couture was named Best Emerging Designer, while Rvonne Haai was named Model of the Year.

Ntshangase said they were still in awe of how the event turned out.

“It was an amazing experience. It was a success compared to what I thought it would turn out to be. We had 32 models and 35 designers as well as the 10 fashion students who participated in the sewing competition,” she said.

In 2023, the fair was held at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre.

Ntshangase said changing the location to the Port Shepstone Civic Centre played a big role in the event being accessible to people from different areas.

She explained that 65 people were employed for the business fair.

“Our focus is on youth empowerment and access to information while putting forward our main priorities, which are job creation and skills development,” she said.
