It all systems go for Maskandi festival

The event takes place at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe Township on Saturday, September 28.

The organiser of the much anticipated annual Ugu Maskandi Festival, Ugu Broadcasting Services (UBS), is on track for the fourth instalment of this traditional music festival.

According to UBS, so far, everything is going according to plan.

UBS spokesperson Melusi Khwela said that security will be tight at the event, which takes place at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe Township on Saturday, September 28.

“Our patrons’ happiness is our main priority; we will ensure that no glass bottles are taken inside the venue,” said Khwela.

He added that the artists performing have confirmed that they will arrive with their supporters ferried in no less than five Totoya Quantum taxis per artist or group.

“We have received good news from artists Tornado and Nongoma, who assured us that they will bring partygoers from the Western Cape and Eastern Cape. So far, the tickets are selling like hotcakes. By the look of things, we expect to triple the number of last year’s artists (12). All artists listed in the line-up will definitely perform on the specified day,” Khwela said.

Among the artists billed to perform are Khuzani, Igcokama Elisha, Ichwane Lebhaca, Phuzekhemesi, Mbuzeni, Ithwasa Lekhansela, uGatsheni, Bahubhe and many more.

Gates open at 14:00.
