Veteran artists unite for mentorship initiative

The mentorship programme, already buoyed by the contributions of notable artists and educators, will undoubtedly benefit from Linda Chonco's presence and expertise.

Seasoned visual artist Linda Chonco recently joined the South Coast Art Business Incubator (SCABI) as an artist-in-residence and a facilitator.

Chonco is a former art teacher and distinguished alumnus of the Rorke’s Drift School of Art.

His involvement in SCABI’s current mentorship initiative was recently welcomed by Ben Nhlanhla Nsusha, an esteemed artist and retired lecturer.

Both Chonco and Nsusha trained at the renowned Rorke’s Drift School of Art.

Nsusha said Chonco’s vast experience as an educator and artist will significantly enrich the initiative by providing valuable guidance and inspiration to aspiring artists participating in the SCABI programme.

He said Chonco’s involvement signifies a renewed commitment to fostering artistic talent and ensuring the continuity of creative excellence rooted in South Africa’s rich cultural and educational traditions.

“The mentorship programme, already buoyed by the contribution of notable artists and educators, will undoubtedly benefit from Chonco’s presence and expertise. As he joins the SCABI community, his influence will extend beyond teaching. He is expected to contribute to the ongoing dialogue on the role of art in society, culture, and education, drawing from his experience and passion for nurturing the next generation of artists,” said Nsusha.

He added that working with Chonco will highlight the significance of inter-generational collaboration in the arts, the importance of shared knowledge, experience, and a love for creativity.

“SCABI welcomes Chonco with open arms and looks forward to the inspiration, wisdom, and artistic energy he will bring to the programme,” said Nsusha.
