Pensioner needs a house

Induna Musa Dlungele said the situation is bad because the pensioner has been robbed a number of times in her home.

A woman in Nkangala area in Mtwalume, Sebenzani Nomthandazo Dlungele (79), lives in deplorable conditions, without water or electricity, and urgently needs help to get a proper house.

She has been living in a shack for more than 20 years.

A community member, Sphamandla Nzama, called on the media to assist Dlungela to get help from anyone willing to do so.

A makeshift bedroom.

According to Nzama, they have tried to get her an RDP house as she has applied for it, but he said when they contact the Department of Human Settlements, they are told that her name does not reflect on the list of beneficiaries.

“It’s either her house has not been built, given to another person, or she was not properly registered.”

Dlungele, who can barely talk, could not even explain her situation.

Also, Induna Musa Dlungele said they have tried to help her, but they have failed.

The Induna said the situation is bad because the pensioner has been robbed a number of times in her home.

“They force open the door because it’s not even a proper door, and they take all her pension money. When it rains, everything gets wet because the shack has holes in the roof.”

The spokesperson for Umzumbe Municipality, Sabelo Ncwane, said the situation is deeply regrettable.

“The municipality will investigate the matter with the view to find a lasting solution.”
