Not-so-smart thieves nabbed by cops

The robbers locked up the security guard in the change-room while they proceeded to rob the building site.

Cops arrested two armed men, aged 26 and 47, for stealing material and equipment from a building site at Nyavini, Msinsini.

The men appeared in the Turton Magistrate’s Court last Friday. The case has been postponed.

According to Saps Ugu District Communications office, the men held up a security guard at Nyavini, Msinsini and locked him up in the change-room while they proceeded to rob the building site.

The robbers then loaded building materials and equipment onto a truck.

“They then took the security guard with them and dropped him off at a bus stop with his cellphone but without his SIM card,” said the Saps office.

Police responded, and information from the truck’s tracking device indicated that the robbers had stopped at a house in Hlokozi area.

Saps Msinsini members and Port Shepstone Tactical Response Team pounced on the residence and arrested the thieves.

The truck was found abandoned in another area of Msinsini.
