Blue light gang hijacks truck near Harding

Hendrick Ludick of Airtrack X-Treme Security has cautioned trucking companies to monitor their trucks closely on the high risk route via Izingolweni.

A gang of armed men pretending to be members of the Saps recently hijacked a truck on the N2 between Izingolweni and Harding.

Dubbed the ‘blue light gang’, Hendrik Ludick of Airtrack X-Treme Security said this gang is gaining momentum in the area.

Airtrack X-Treme was contacted to track and recover the hijacked truck as it was alleged that a new white Toyota Corolla and a single-cab Toyota Hilux with blue lights had stopped the truck.

“The truck was then robbed by four men, of which three were armed and dressed in Saps uniforms,” he said.

The driver and conductor were taken by the bogus cops.

Members of the Highway Patrol of Port Shepstone responded to assist 101 Recovery Team Delta.

Ludick said the driver and conductor were found unharmed. The truck was also recovered.

“Half the cargo was offloaded by the gang, and the truck was taken to Izingolweni police station for further investigation.”

Another success story was the recovery of an Isuzu bakkie reported to be hijacked in Port Edward on June 19.

The 101 Recovery Team Delta, together with members from the Saps K9 Unit Port Shepstone, responded to the call for help. They were also assisted by police from Bizana.

“Thankfully, the tracking device was well fitted, and this resulted in the successful recovery of the vehicle in Bizana,” said Ludick.

The vehicle was handed over to Port Edward Saps for further investigation.

In a separate incident on June 22, Airtrack X-Treme Security was contacted to track and recover a hijacked truck on the N2 Paddock/Izingolweni area.

Ludick said the hijackers had followed the truck with unidentified vehicles.

“The gang then opened fire on the truck and forced it to stop. The driver and conductor fled on foot but was caught and held by the suspects,” he said.

They were later found unharmed. The truck was also recovered.

He cautioned trucking companies to monitor their trucks closely on the high-risk route via Izingolweni.
