Thrilling end to volleyball battle

As one of the largest volleyball districts, boasting 21 teams, it was an exhilarating day of matches.

There was plenty of action at Port Shepstone Volleyball Association’s (PSVA) second knockout tournament at the Marburg Sports Complex recently.

Paragon Divas all set and ready for the tournament. They are (back, from left) Monique Jaggers, Fameeda Moodley, Jazzmin Habib, Laneese Smith, Aurura Hulley, Bianca Hargreaves and Tyron Fynn, with Lee-Ann Smith, Minenhle Soboyisi, Cassidy Bouverie and Sasha Padayachee in front.

Many teams, including both men and women, fought hard in their respective divisions. All-in-all, each individual player brought unique skills and, at the end of the day, it was about keeping the sport alive, and most importantly, all players had fun.

As one of the largest volleyball districts, boasting 21 teams, it was an exhilarating day.

The day began on a high note, with the winners from the first knockout held in March receiving their trophies from sponsor Marlini Moodley of Nedtex.

The winners were Vortex – premier section, Evolution – division one, and Sideout Saints – ladies’ division.

The Vortex ladies team are (back, from left) Rish Ramsaroop, Arshia Ramsaroop, Annaleen Williams, Cayuri Naidoo, Romz Chutrugon and Rosalie Behari, with Kriya Naidoo, Caylisha Moodley and Vuyo Makae in front.

As the tournament kicked off, teams played round-robin matches and gave their all to make it through to the semi-finals. Four teams in each division battled it out to reach the finals. In a spectacular end, City Volleyball Club and Sideout Volleyball Club saw two of their teams in the finals.

In the premier section, Sideout Cobraz played an intense match, winning 2-1 against Paragon Avengers.

In the men’s division, Evolution took a 2-0 win against City Boyz.

The ladies had a spectacular final, with Sideout Saints taking the win against City Girlz, winning 2-1.

The association thanks all players for showing true sportsmanship throughout the tournament and to the public who came out in their numbers to show their support.

The Sideout masters are (back, from left) Jayden Singh, Kiren Manilall, Matthew Hanuman and Rajen Maharaj, with Marno van der Merwe and Navin Manilall in front.
