Track Torque: Verstappen wins again despite Norris chase

We move on to the marvellous airfield track of Silverstone for the British Grand Prix soon.

In an exciting Spanish Grand Prix, there was a brilliant chase by Lando Norris on Max Verstappen.

Verstappen’s Red Bull made it to the flag a mere 2.2 seconds ahead of Norris’s McLaren.

Lewis Hamilton and teammate George Russell also drove very well in much-improved Mercedes cars to make it third and fourth for the three-pointed stars.

The competition up front is getting closer all the time, as shown with Charles Leclerc only a second behind George Russell in his Mercedes in 5th place.

Another nine seconds back was the other Ferrari of Carlos Sainz, the Scuderia needing a little bit more pace to compete on equal terms with the front runners.

We all hope that Ferrari can do this before the Italian Grand Prix at the beginning of September, or sooner, especially for the Tifosi!

Back to Spain and in seventh place was the second McLaren of Oscar Piastri, who was not at his best all weekend, although he did recover during the race.

Sergio Perez was next up in the second Red Bull Racing Honda in eighth position.

The two Alpine Renaults did well to complete the map in the last point, scoring positions in ninth (Pierre Gasly) and tenth (Esteban Ocon ) positions.

It had been an exciting race with the top 10 positions all on the same lap; such is the very competitive nature of Formula One racing at the moment.

In two weeks’ time, we move on to the marvellous airfield track of Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

With its wonderful, wide high-speed corners, it always provides a great spectacle as the cars change direction under huge aerodynamic downforce at almost 190 miles per hour (300kmh).

It really is a scene to behold.

Silverstone in the dry is terrific but also spectacular if it is wet, which can easily happen in England’s changeable weather.

The best of the British awaits us.
