Sports tournaments unite communities

Siya Msomi, the founder of the Offramp Experience, said the soccer and fishing tournaments were a build-up to the Offramp Experience this weekend.

As a build-up to the Offramp Experience, a fishing competition was held at the Margate Pier last Sunday.

The Offramp Ultimate Fishing competition is a new addition to the Offramp Experience series of events.

According to the organisers, fishing enthusiasts of all levels participated in categories designed for everyone.

“Participants showed off their skills and enjoyed the camaraderie. With the competition being free for everyone to enter and enjoy, it was an ideal outing for families and friends. In addition to the fishing competition, attendees enjoyed a variety of refreshments and entertainment options,” they said.

Meanwhile, the Offramp Experience Soccer Tournament was also held at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre last week.

The tournament was organised by the Offramp team in collaboration with the Coastal Association and the South African Football Association (SAFA) in Ugu.

The tournament was attended by football fans from the Ugu region.

Speaking on behalf of SAFA in the Ugu region, Wakhowakho Mfeka said that the Offramp Experience Soccer Tournament was successful.

“In the finals, Lamina FC from Mtwalume (under Mtwalume Football Association) and Madiba FC from Bhobhoy (under Bhobhoyi/Merlewood Development) competed against each other. Lamina FC won,” said Mfeka.

He added that before reaching the finals, Lamina had beaten Bay United of Umdoni Municipality by one goal, and Madiba had beaten Punters FC of Umuziwabantu by three goals to two.

“In this match, Lamina won two to one and walked away with the trophy, gold medals and R20 000,” he said.
