Protea colours can only be awarded to the top two athletes in each division of a sporting code.

A trio of elite karateka from the WKF Ugu Karate have been selected to represent South Africa at the upcoming UFAK Region 5 Africa Championships to be held in Swakopmund, Namibia, from June 19-23.

Tyler Hogan will take part in the senior male kata division, and Miguel Gouws will compete in the cadet 14/15 male kumite over 70kg division, both as Protea athletes.

Ilhaam Amod will represent the country in the 16/17 female kumite under 53kg divisions in Karate South Africa colours.

As per Sascoc, Protea Colours can only be awarded to the top two athletes in each division of a sporting code. Third and fourth-ranked athletes receive KSA colours.

Ugu Karate chairman Shihan Coenie Vrey wished them well in the upcoming championships.

“This is an amazing achievement for our trio of athletes, and we are proud of their achievements,” he said.
