Temple assists tornado victims

The South Coast community shows the true spirit of ubuntu.

Devotees and non-devotees of the Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir in lower Albersville made a donation to the communities of Tongaat that were ravaged by a tornado recently.

A truck laden with non-perishable items, including food, water, blankets, baby food, toiletries and more was sent to Tongaat last Sunday.

The chairperson of the mandir, Veena Lakhan, said the South Coast community is ready to help in any situation.

“Our local business owners and the community at large showed no hesitation to help the people of Tongaat in a short period of time. This is clearly an indication that they know the true spirit of Ubuntu. A service to mankind is a service to God,” she said.

Numerous items were collected by Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir and handed over last Sunday.

She thanked everyone for donating essential items, which were well received by the organisers of the Tongaat disaster relief team.

Veena is a representative of the Marburg Community group and the Hindu Unity Forum of South Africa, Lower South Coast Region.
