Man shot dead, family seeks answers

Imran Akoon from Qinabout was fatally shot in the chest during the early hours of May 28.

The family of Imran Akoon (36), who was shot dead in Qinabout in Gamalakhe last week, is asking the public to come forward with information.

Akoon was allegedly shot by an intruder on Tuesday, May 28. Sources claim that the intruder had pointed a gun at his son’s head.

After the boy screamed, his father (Akoon) rushed in to see what was going on. The gun was then pointed at him, and he was shot in the chest.

According to police, a case of murder was opened at Gamalakhe police station.

“A 36-year-old man from Qinabout was fatally shot in the chest during the early hours of May 28. The victim was taken to a local clinic but had succumbed to his injuries. The motive for the shooting will be determined by a police investigation,” said police in a statement.

Meanwhile, the deceased’s sister, Naseema Akoon, told Fever that, as a family, they cannot understand why someone would want to hurt Imran.

“We are so hurt, and we cannot understand why someone would want to harm such a gentle soul. This has ripped a hole in our hearts. My mom is not coping at all. Our only question is why? Why him, hurting a person that will never hurt a fly,” she said.

The sister pleads with the community of Qinabout to come forward with information.

She added that from the police’s investigation, all they want is for the perpetrator to be brought to justice.
