R73m clinic for Umzumbe

The clinic will have six treatment rooms, offices, a parking space outside and housing for nurses who monitor emergencies at night.

The KZN MEC for Health, Nomagugu Simelane, introduced the contractor for the construction of a R73m clinic in Nyavini under Umzumbe Municipality at a sod-turning ceremony last week.

Simelane said the clinic will have six treatment rooms, offices, a parking space outside and housing for nurses who will monitor emergencies at night.

“About 25 people are currently employed. Once construction is complete, professional nurses will be hired. The clinic will be open seven days a week, and nurses will be on night duty. Construction is expected to be completed in 18 months,” said Simelane.

Meanwhile, Nyavini residents said a clinic in the area will allow them to save a lot of money.

Ndukuzezwe Shozi said he will be able to walk to the clinic.

“We were paying a lot of money to go to the clinic in Jolivet. Now, with this clinic, we will be able to walk or pay R1. To me, the construction of this clinic means the end of my expenses; I feel happy,” he said.

Also, Shintshile Dlamini said she was delighted to see development in her area.

The contractor has already started with the work because we don’t want to do a sod-turning ceremony when the work has not begun. The people of Nyavini had been asking for this clinic for years.
