Author pens book on workplace issues

The book covers depression, role of unions, good versus bad managers, the 'Queen Bee' syndrome and much more.

South Coast resident and former journalist Bongi Malishe, from Murchison, has published her latest book, The Revolting Truth.

In her 11th book, Malishe highlights issues faced by employees and management which are not discussed or dealt with.

“Unfortunately, the working environment has turned out to be hostile, unsafe and a cause of mental or physical illness. Sadly, there are a lot of casualties due to bullying and harassment in the working environment. The employed are mostly diagnosed with chronic diseases, more than those who are unemployed,” she said.

Topics in the book include: depression is real, and it kills; facts about injury on duty (IOD); the ‘Queen Bee’ syndrome; the role of the Union; employee benefits; good manager versus bad manager and tips for a healthy environment.

Malishe wants employees, management and families to read her latest book. She believes it will sensitise the employer to the hardships faced by their employees and that employees know where to go when the ‘going gets tough’.

“Do not resign because of hardship at work; rather consult a psychologist if you feel the burden is too heavy and you are affected mentally and psychologically. This is called injury on duty, unfortunately, employees are unaware that they have a right to get help, and others think if they consult psychologists, they are mentally disturbed or insane,” said Malishe.
