South Coast Freshwater Angling Club held its annual prize-giving recently at Southport’s Blue Flag Beach.

Overall winner was club president Charlie Ward, followed by Hennie du Plessis, with Gavin Huntingford in third.
Drien Humphries was the ladies’ winner, with Ena Ward the runner-up.

During the year, Ryan Basson caught the biggest barbel, Charlie the biggest yellow fish, and Hennie the biggest carp.

Club president Charlie Ward thanked all the various sponsors, in particular Halfway Ford, Rubicon and Lake Eland, for their support in making it a super event.

The anglers enjoyed an oxtail potjie with rice, salad and freshly baked pot breads.
All the club members received huge prizes in the lucky draws.

Nearly all club anglers received provincial or national colours for freshwater angling during the season.
The club is a social one, and any anglers on the South Coast are welcome to join.

“We aim to promote the sport of angling for everyone, irrespective of race, age and gender,” said Charlie.
