Lass quits day job to pursue acting

Fever Local News | Ondele Ngalo who is also a presenter and musician said her love for acting was inspired by her older sister who studied drama.

Margate’s Ondele Ngalo resigned from her day job after landing a role on SABC 1’s telenovela Uzalo.

The former Southcity learner said she asked her manager if she could go to Durban for a few days, but her request was declined.

She said she had no other choice but to quit, to attend the shooting of Uzalo.
Ngalo plays Nomusa and bagged the role at auditions recently held at the Margate Art Museum.

She debuted on the telenovela last week, and she described Nomusa as a girl from a rural area who did not complete her matric and has children.

“Nomusa tries to find a job but does not succeed and ends up marrying a foreigner to make ends meet. What I like about the character is that Nomusa is resilient, she never gives up although she keeps making mistakes,” said Ngalo.

The 23-year-old, who is also a presenter and musician, said her love for acting was inspired by her older sister who studied drama.

She explained that after completing matric, she did not study further but her sister fuelled her passion for acting by forcing them to skip while trying to memorise certain lines.

Uzalo contacted a few people on the South Coast and sent them scripts.
She said being in the Genesis Skills Development programme assisted her because Uzalo contacted the organisation about hosting auditions.

“Londiwe Cele of Genesis sent all of us in the programme a script so I rehearsed and did the audition and got a call from Uzalo a month later. I was very excited to hear that I was successful because I did not study this particular field,” she said.

Meanwhile, Cele the founder and project manager of Genesis, said it has been amazing working with Ngalo, saying that she is happy and proud of her.

“I pray for only the best in her career. Genesis, as one of the leading skills development interventions in KZN and the South Coast, we are committed to nurturing top talents in film and television. Ngalo’s success at the Uzalo auditions underscores our dedication to fostering the next generation of showbiz stars. We eagerly anticipate seeing more of her on our screens, paving the way for aspiring creatives and the youth of our community.”
